At the beginning of the Festival, Consul-General Kinefuchi thanked the co-organizers and sponsors for their enthusiasm and dedication to deepening the friendship between Japan and the U.S. He expressed his wish for the Festival to grow into a major Japan-related festival not just for Northern Mississippi, but also for entire state. Tupelo Mayor Jeremy Shelton praised the economic and social contributions that Japanese companies have made in Northern Mississippi. Mr. Akitoshi Ichino, President of Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Mississippi, Inc. remarked on the significance of cherry blossoms to Japan and Japanese people.
During the Festival, which was attended by approximately 300 people of both Japanese and American communities, guests enjoyed performances by students of the Japanese supplementary school and Aikido. They also enjoyed origami, Japanese calligraphy, rice cake pounding, Japanese toys, and tasting Japanese food.
