Japan-America Society of TN hosts “Tenenssee-Japan Forum 2019” and Annual Meeting

The Japan-America Society of Tennessee (JAST) held their Annual Meeting on February 27th, 2019 in Nashville, TN.  JAST Chair John Scannapieco and new JAST CEO Donna Lee Siple welcomed attendees and reviewed the society’s 2018 activities and plans for 2019.

In conjunction with the Annual Meeting, JAST also hosted the “Tennessee-Japan Forum 2019”, supported in part by the National Association of Japan America Societies (NAJAS) and the Embassy of Japan.  The forum, moderated by Mr. Peter Kelley (President, NAJAS), offered an analysis of current Japan/U.S. relations and where the partnership is headed in the future.  Speakers included Ms. Masami Tyson (Director, TN Department of Economic and Community Development), Ms. Wendy Cutler (Vice President, Asia Society Policy Institute), and Mr. Kiyoaki Aburaki (Japan Business Federation - KEIDANREN). 

Consul-General Hiroyuki Kobayashi (Honorary Co-Chair of JAST’s Board of Directors) closed the presentation portion of the event by highlighting the importance of this region to the overall Japan-U.S. relationship.  The Consul-General expressed appreciation for the support of JAST and drew special attention to the bright future of the Japan-TN partnership.  He also welcomed Governor Bill Lee’s appointment as Honorary Co-Chair of JAST’s Board of Directors.
