Japan Honors Dr. Tetsuo NAKAMOTO

On April 29, the Government of Japan officially announced that Dr. Tetsuo NAKAMOTO, Professor Emeritus of the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center, will be honored with a prestigious decoration, the Order of the Sacred Treasure, Gold Rays with Rosette, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to friendship between Japan and the United States of America. The decoration will be conferred by His Majesty the Emperor of Japan.

Dr. Tetsuo NAKAMOTO is being recognized primarily for his longtime contributions and dedication to exchanges between the American and Japanese communities in Louisiana.  He is an active board member and President of the Japan Club of New Orleans and Vice President of the Japanese Garden Society of New Orleans.  In addition to his outstanding academic career in the field of physiology in the United States, Dr. NAKAMOTO also introduces aspects of his research to Japanese scholars and the Japanese public.

The Order of the Sacred Treasure, established in 1888, features a mirror, which is an ancient imperial treasure, surrounded by sixteen connected circles and four beams of light.  The attachment carries a chrysanthemum leaf pattern and the order recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to friendly relations between Japan and other countries.

The Government of Japan plans to host a formal conferment ceremony at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan in Tokyo, and Dr. NAKAMOTO will be granted an audience with His Majesty the Emperor of Japan on May 12.
