Conferment Ceremony in Celebration of the Honorable Don Sundquist

 On September 13th, 2018, the Consulate-General of Japan in Nashville held a Conferment Ceremony for the Honorable Don Sundquist, former Governor of the State of Tennessee, celebrating his receipt of an Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star. The reception was attended by Governor Sundquist’s family, friends and relatives, officials of the State Government of Tennessee, and representatives from Japanese companies.
 
 Consul-General Kobayashi expressed his appreciation for the Governor in his remarks, after which he formally conferred the Order. The Consul-General praised the Governor for his enthusiasm on the development of economic relations between Japan and Tennessee, which led to the establishment of Tennessee’s first-ever international trade office in Yokohama, and noted that the governor’s belief in the importance on the personal relationships with Japanese counterparts led to a record level of investment in Tennessee. Governor Sundquist expressed his gratitude for the honor and recalled with fondness interesting stories about recruiting Japanese investment during his tenure. Mr. Arnold E. Perl, Chairman Emeritus Japan-America Society of Tennessee (JAST), thanked the Governor for his initiative to establish JAST. Mr. Jim Henry, the Deputy Governor of the State of Tennessee, proposed a toast.
