Business Seminar on October 21, 2022

On October 21st, the Consulate-General of Japan in Nashville and the New York Branch of Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC) held a business seminar, their first face-to-face seminar in 2 years and 10 months.

After opening remarks by Consul General Matsumoto and SMBC Managing Director Uchida, lectures were given by SMBC’s Chief Economist Nishioka and Director of Corporate Research Okada.

Part 1 included an explanation of the effects of inflation and monetary tightening on corporate earnings and investment, as well as its impact on consumption and the labor market. 
Part 2 was an explanation of the current situation and future trends in automobile sales and production, as well as the policy trends of the Biden administration regarding EVs.
In addition, during a social gathering after the lecture, there was a lively exchange of opinions between the lecturers, the co-sponsor and the participants, and it was a great success.
