Courtesy Visit by Japan Outreach Initiative (JOI) Coordinators
2024/7/17

On July 15, Consul-General Watanabe received a courtesy visit from four Japan Outreach Initiative (JOI) Coordinators, who have been posted to Consulate-General of Japan’s jurisdiction.
The JOI Program is a joint initiative of the Japan Foundation (JF) and the Laurasian Institution, a non-profit organization in the United States. JOI has been sending JOI Coordinators from Japan to the U.S. for two-year terms since 2002. JOI Coordinators promote community-based exchanges with the aim of deepening interest in and understanding of Japan at the grassroots level.
Consul-General Watanabe spoke to the JOI Coordinators dispatched to Tennessee, Kentucky, and Mississippi about their activities. He also noted that the strong Japan-U.S. relationship is supported by grassroots exchanges, such as JOI, and that the JOI Coordinators who conduct international exchange activities in local communities make a significant contribution to this relationship. Consul-General Watanabe expressed his respect for the activities of the JOI Coordinators and encouraged them to continue to expand the scope of their activities.
The Consulate-General of Japan in Nashville sincerely hopes that the JOI Coordinators will continue to be active in their respective regions.
