Consul-General Watanabe Attends the Welcome Reception of the Smyrna-Zama Sister City Program

On July 31, Consul-General Watanabe attended the Welcome Reception of the Smyrna-Zama Sister City Program. This reception was held to welcome the 20 members of the delegation from Zama City, Kanagawa Prefecture, including 14 students, who visited Smyrna. In his opening remarks, Consul-General Watanabe welcomed the delegation and expressed his appreciation for the efforts of those involved in the sister city exchange, and expressed his hope that the grassroots exchange experiences of the participants in the sister city exchange would be shared with their respective communities.

Mr. Marc Michaelson of the Smyrna Sister City Committee gave opening remarks at the reception, and Mr. Marc Adkins, Vice Mayor of Smyrna, gave welcoming remarks on behalf of Smyrna. From Zama City, Keiko Ikemura, a member of the visiting delegation, read a letter from Mayor Mito Sato on behalf of the city. In addition, student representatives from both Zama and Smyrna also delivered remarks. The Zama delegation will stay in Smyrna until August 11.
