On August 7, Consul-General Watanabe visited the headquarters of Nissan North America, located in Franklin, Tennessee. After receiving a briefing from company representatives on the overview of Nissan’s operations in North America, he exchanged views regarding the company’s current business status and future outlook.

Nissan North America relocated its headquarters from California to Tennessee in 2006, and currently employs approximately 1,800 people at the site.

Since establishing a vehicle assembly plant in Smyrna, Tennessee in 1983, Nissan has played a vital role in the economic development of the state. In addition to creating a large number of jobs, the company has attracted other automobile and auto parts manufacturers to the region, contributing to the formation of an automotive industry cluster and significantly advancing Tennessee’s automotive sector.

In North America, Nissan continues to contribute to society through two main pillars: the Nissan Foundation, which promotes understanding of cultural diversity, and Nissan Neighbors, which engages employees in community service activities.
