On May 14, Consul-General Watanabe visited Mitsubishi Chemical America's facility located in Memphis, Tennessee. During the visit, company representatives provided an overview of their business operations and future outlook. They also exchanged views on the challenges the company faces, followed by a tour of the facility.

The Memphis plant manufactures electrolyte for lithium-ion batteries, as well as methyl methacrylate (MMA), a raw material used in acrylic resins for automotive lamp covers, signage, construction materials, aquarium tanks, paints, and more. The electrolyte produced at this plant is supplied to lithium battery manufacturers across North America, playing a key role in supporting the electric vehicle supply chain. Additionally, the Memphis facility is the world’s largest and most cost-competitive MMA production site.
