On Saturday, April 11th, the Nashville Cherry Blossom Festival took place at Public Square Park, attracting a large crowd of visitors. Consul-General Watanabe participated in the Sakura Walk alongside Mayor Freddie O’Connell and others. Later, during the opening ceremony, he delivered remarks expressing his gratitude to everyone involved in organizing the event, including the Japan-America Society of Tennessee (JAST). He also highlighted the strong friendship and cultural ties that have developed between Japan and the state of Tennessee.

Throughout the festival, various groups showcased Japanese culture both on stage and at booths around the festival. The Consulate-General of Japan in Nashville hosted a booth offering a yukata dress-up experience, cultural lectures, and information about the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Program.

The annual Nashville Cherry Blossom Festival plays an important role in promoting mutual understanding and goodwill between Japan and Tennessee, as well as between Japan and the United States. We look forward to seeing everyone again at next year’s festival.
