JOB OPENING: Social Media Specialist, Consulate-General of Japan in Nashville

The Consulate-General of Japan in Nashville is currently seeking a Social Media Specialist to coordinate our social media postings.

Position Type
This is a CONTRACT POSITION running from September 2026 through the end of March 2027, with the potential for extension.
Working Hours
30 hours per week. Work hours for this position are from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday, with a one-hour lunch break from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM.
Compensation
Salary is negotiable. Please note that the monthly fee for the building parking garage will be the responsibility of the employee.

Responsibilities
We are looking for an organized team player who can manage a variety of tasks and assume the following responsibilities:
  • Manage the Consulate's official social media accounts, including creating and posting Japan-related content
  • Conduct regular analysis of the Consulate's social media account performance
  • Create informative graphics, edit photos, and film and/or produce videos
  • Monitor and report on Japan-related activities conducted by external organizations
  • Provide research and technical support for presentations
  • Assist with various administrative tasks related to the Consulate's public relations efforts and cultural events
  • Perform other duties as deemed necessary

Qualifications
  • Excellent writing and communication skills in English
  • Skills and experience in graphic design and video editing
  • Knowledge and experience with social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, etc.)
  • Knowledge and experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook, and Canva
  • Valid work authorization

Ideal Candidate
  • Has prior experience managing social media accounts
  • Demonstrates a solid understanding of the principles and policies governing social media management within a government body
  • Demonstrates knowledge of Japanese culture and/or Japanese work culture
  • Possesses some Japanese language ability (advanced proficiency preferred)
  • Has prior work experience in Japan or at a Japanese company
  • Is skilled in photo editing, video editing, and/or graphic design
