On August 20, Consul-General Watanabe attended the expansion ceremony of Hitachi Energy's Alamo Plant, located in Alamo, Tennessee. The ceremony was also attended by Tennessee Governor Bill Lee, U.S. Senator Bill Hagerty, U.S. Representative David Kustoff, Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development Commissioner Stuart McWhorter, and other distinguished guests.
In response to the growing demand for electricity in the United States, Hitachi Energy is investing $106 million in the plant to enhance its production capacity, particularly for bushings—insulating components used in transformers. The expansion is expected to create approximately 100 additional jobs. The new facilities are scheduled to begin operations by mid-2027, and once completed, the Alamo Plant will become the largest bushing manufacturing facility in North America.
In his remarks at the ceremony, Governor Lee stated that Hitachi Energy’s investment would have a significant impact on the local community and expressed his gratitude to the company and local stakeholders for their efforts in making the expansion possible. Senator Hagerty also remarked that Hitachi plays an extremely important role in the United States as the country leads the energy revolution.
