On Thursday, November 6, Consul-General Watanabe attended the annual general meeting of the Japan Society of New Orleans (JSNO) held at the New Orleans Yacht Club in New Orleans, Louisiana. Founded in 1928, JSNO is one of the oldest Japan-America societies in the United States. It contributes to strengthening relations between New Orleans and Japan through various cultural activities, including supporting and sponsoring the New Orleans Japan Fest held every October at the New Orleans Museum of Art.

At the annual meeting, Consul-General Watanabe delivered a keynote address, expressing his respect and gratitude to the energetic JSNO President Mike Turner and other related parties. He also touched upon recent Japan-U.S. relations and the economic relationship between Japan and New Orleans, stating his desire to continue working closely with JSNO to further strengthen the relationship between Japan and New Orleans, as well as between Japan and the state of Louisiana. He also mentioned the significant expansion of Japanese companies' business in Louisiana and expressed his gratitude for JSNO's cooperation in the sister city exchange between New Orleans and Matsue City, including the management of the New Orleans delegation that visited Matsue City, Shimane Prefecture last year. Approximately 40 JSNO members and related parties attended the annual general meeting, and after the meeting, they deepened their friendship.
