The 45th Annual Joint Meeting of the Japan-U.S. Southeast & Southeast U.S./Japan Associations was held at the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo on October 12-14. Delegations from Tennessee and Mississippi, two of the states under our jurisdiction, participated, with Stuart McWhorter, Commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development and Laura Hipp, Deputy Executive Director of the Mississippi Development Authority. Consul-General Matsumoto was invited as a guest of honor and delivered remarks at the closing ceremony.
The Japan-U.S. Southeast Association and The Southeast U.S./Japan Association were established in 1975 and 1976 respectively, to promote mutual understanding among government officials, businesspeople, and experts, to deepen cooperation, and to contribute to economic development. The Japan-U.S. Joint Conference is held every year at an alternate venue.
