On March 30th, Consul-General Masami Kinefuchi attended an special legislative ceremony, where he had the honor of being recognized by Tennessee House Speaker Beth Harwell and the full Tennessee House of Representatives for his “vital role in facilitating the exchange of commerce and culture between Japan and Tennessee” and for further strengthening the U.S.-Japan relationship. This recognition is a great honor for Japan.

In his remarks to the House during the ceremony, Consul-General Kinefuchi thanked Speaker Harwell, who sponsored the bill, as well as Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam and his cabinet, commissioners, and other government officials who have assisted our effort to enhance the friendly ties between Japan and Tennessee, as the Japan-Tennessee cooperation extends to areas such as grassroots exchanges, cultural events, sister city relationships, and community-level relationship building.  Consul-General Kinefuchi also noted that Japan and Tennessee, which is home to more than 180 Japanese-owned companies, enjoy very close economic and business relationship but that our relationship goes beyond commerce; in February, he had a privilege of hosting a reception for Tennessee’s military veterans who served as part of the U.S. Forces in Japan.

He expressed his renewed commitment to further strengthening the close relationships between Japan and Tennessee and the other covering states.
