May 31, 2018
On May 30th, Consul-General Kobayashi paid a courtesy visit to Commissioner Kevin Triplett, of the Tennessee Department of Tourist Development. Commissioner Triplett welcomed the Consul-General to Tennessee and highlighted the operations of his department, including its focus on attracting more visitors to Tennessee and managing the state’s many welcome centers. It was also noted that Tennessee is part of a multi-state partnership which maintains a tourism representative in Tokyo working to attract Japanese travelers to states that border the Mississippi River. Consul-General Kobayashi congratulated the Commissioner on the new direct flight to London, announced in early May, and expressed his hope that a direct flight might someday take Tennesseans to Japan. The Consul-General also highlighted Japan’s selection to host the 2020 Olympic Games and its goal of doubling the number of foreign visitors in Japan, from 20 to 40 million by the year 2020. Both leaders agreed that Japan and Tennessee share many common goals and they will work closely together to build new opportunities and improve the Japan-Tennessee Friendship.
