Recruitment of Local Staff of Consulate-General of Japan in Nashville
 
The Consulate-General of Japan in Nashville is seeking a highly motivated, team-oriented candidate to join us as Cultural Programs Coordinator in the Culture & Information Section. 1. Position: Cultural Programs Coordinator
 
2. Work Place: Consulate-General of Japan in Nashville
1801 West End Ave., Suite 900, Nashville, TN 37203
 
3. Benefits: Paid vacation, medical/dental insurance, US federal and some Japanese national holidays.
Working Hours: 8:30 AM – 5:15 PM, Monday – Friday; some evenings and weekends required for special events and receptions.
 
4. Responsibilities;
Program Coordinating
  • Plan and organize Japanese cultural programs (i.e. cultural events, festivals, art exhibits, etc.) including both official Consulate events and events with outside organizations as needed.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with professionals in various fields for program development.
  • Create and present cultural and informational programs for schools, libraries and other community organizations.
  • Support US-Japan sister-city relationships, and other international exchange programs.
  • Assist with the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Program (i.e. recruitment, interviews, and orientations) as needed.
Communications
  • Serve as a cultural information resource to the general public.
  • Respond to inquiries from the public regarding Japanese culture and activities in the region.
  • Produce and distribute an official email newsletter.
  • Draft press releases, briefings and talking points for diplomatic personnel and external partners.
  • Partner with the office’s Social Media Coordinator to create social media campaigns for events and programs.
  • Update the Consulate’s website.
  • Act as media liaison for event and PR-related communications. 
Administrative Duties
  • Organize cultural materials and library resources for community lending program.
  • Assist in proofreading English documents.
  • Carry out other logistical and administrative duties as assigned.
 
5. Qualifications
  • A high level of proficiency in both Japanese and English.
  • Invested interest in, knowledge of, and passion for Japan and the US-Japan relationship.
  • In-depth understanding of Japanese culture and passion to promote Japanese culture.
  • Excellent organizational skills, keen attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in basic software such as MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel; social media, website design and database experience preferred.
  • Work authorization in the U.S.
