Consul-General Matsumoto visited Zama Park in Smyrna, Tennessee on June 6, 2023. The park was inspired by a "pocket park" near the hotel where the delegation, led by Mayor Mary Reed of Smyrna, stayed when they visited Zama City in May 2019. Smyrna planned and built Zama Park to provide a place for citizens to relax and incorporate Japanese culture after returning home. It was named "Zama Park" to symbolize the exchange that has been fostered since Smyrna and Zama became sister cities in 1991, and to ensure continued exchange in the future.

The Consulate-General of Japan in Nashville will continue to introduce places like Zama Park, a symbol of Japan-U.S. exchange in its jurisdiction.
