On June 6, Consul-General Yoichi Matsumoto attended the 40th anniversary celebration of the Nissan Smyrna Assembly Plant held at Smyrna Town Hall. The ceremony, hosted by Smyrna Mayor Mary Reed, was attended by about 30 people, including Smyrna town council officials and executives and employees of the Nissan Smyrna Assembly Plant. Mayor Reed and the Smyrna Town Council presented a proclamation and plaque commemorating the 40th anniversary to the Nissan representatives. In his speech at the ceremony, Consul-General Matsumoto expressed his appreciation for the significant contribution in 1983 that the opening of the Nissan plant made to strengthening the relationship between Japan and Tennessee. He also explained that more than 200 Japanese companies currently operate in Tennessee, employing more than 60,000 Tennesseans.

The Consulate-General of Japan in Nashville will continue to participate in various events and activities to support Japanese companies in its jurisdiction.
