On June 13, Consul-General Yoichi Matsumoto visited the Temple Israel located in Memphis, Tennessee; the largest Jewish institution in Tennessee. He met with Senior Rabbi Micah Greenstein, who provided a detailed account of the history of the Jewish community in Memphis and the state of Tennessee. The Consulate-General of Japan in Nashville, in cooperation with the Memphis Multicultural Advisory Board, will host a screening of the film "Persona Non Grata" in Memphis this November. The film describes the story of Chiune Sugihara, a diplomat who issued exit visas to Jews fleeing Europe during World War II and saved approximately 6,000 lives. Senior Rabbi Greenstein has offered to assist with the screening. Details of the film screening will be announced on our website and social media accounts. We look forward to seeing you there.
