Consul-General Kato visited the Rotary Club of Smyrna on March 30. He gave a speech on the importance of the Japan-Tennessee relationship and the revitalization of the Japanese economy to approximately 70 attendees.
Nissan chose Smyrna as the location for its first U.S. plant over 30 years ago, so the Consul-General focused on topics such as current trends for Japanese manufacturers in the U.S. automotive market and the sister-city relationship between Smyrna and Zama City, Japan. A Japanese student from Fukushima University who is currently studying at Middle Tennessee State University was also invited to the Rotary Club meeting. He spoke in English about how people in Fukushima are working hard to rebuild after the earthquake and tsunami.
